This week we learned:
We learned that heritage includes dancing, music, language, games and holidays.  (Maggie)
I learned that ancestors are people who were born before us. (Brooke)
This week we learned about the three states of matter.  They are liquid, solid and gas.  (Matthew)
I learned about the commutative property.  For example, 5 X 4 = 20 and 4 X 5 = 20. (Ryan)
I learned about the big ideas and seed stories.  Personal narratives need seed stories. (Melanie)

Dear Parents,

Thank you for coming tonight.  I look forward to discussing our class routines and expectations with you.  Please find your child's desk and watch the video that is there for you.  You also should visit the various tables to sign up for a parent/teacher conference or our class parties.  While you wait for things to get started please complete the Daily Common Core Review on your child's desk.  This will give you a sense of what kind of math we are completing this year. A peek at our first week!

Hello all,

I hope you are enjoying your weekend!  I am proud to say that we survived our first few days together.
On Fridays, we will recap our learning from the week with a special blog post.  Here are a few things my students learned this week:


This week we learned:

I learned about the school and the classroom. (Kalib)  
I learned about multiples.  For example 4 is a multiple of 8. (Peter and Sophia)
We learned how to greet each other. (Alexa)
I learned the square root of 9.  (Jack)


I am thoroughly enjoying getting to know all of my new students.  I wanted to share some pictures from our first week.  This will give you a peek into our classroom.
Getting our lockers was an exciting task on the first day.
I am impressed with the student's stamina for writing.
The kids worked diligently on our bulletin board.

We discussed "Read to Self", and the kids showed how great they are getting into the reading zone!

We began working in our writer's notebooks.






Our class is responsible for one of the hallway bulletin boards this
month.  We are only 1/3 of the way complete, but I love how it looks
so far.  Stay tuned for the finished product!












That is all for this week.  Be sure to check your email as I sent a newsletter on Friday.  In the newsletter, I challenged all of the children to participate in Public Library Card Month.  If everyone in our class has a library card by the end of this month, I will buy the class a pizza.  The card must be in the child's name. Have the child bring the card to school as proof that it exists.  Then, use the card often to check out cool and interesting books!

Dear Minion Makers,

I am very excited to see how your minions come out today.  I really do believe you are all "one in a minion!"  I am pleased with our first two days of school, and I am looking forward to the third.

Next, you should continue working on your birthday number.  The paper can be found the chalk tray, behind the screen.  We will work on your minions after today's special which is Art.  You will also have Phys. Ed this afternoon.

Today, you will experience Math workshop again.  I hope to teach you another Math activity today.  I also hope we get some time to work in our writer's notebook today.  Be thinking about all the many things you are; we will write about that later!
